14/12/2015 (Agence Europe) - EU condemns attack on Kabul diplomatic quarter. On Saturday 12 December, the EU condemned the attack by the Taliban on Kabul's diplomatic quarter that killed four Afghan policemen and two members of the Spanish diplomatic representation's security services. Four attackers were also killed. A spokesperson for the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy said the EU expressed its solidarity with the Spanish and Afghan authorities and would continue its fight against terrorism and for a peaceful and prosperous future for the country and its citizens. The attacks took place close to and within the Spanish embassy and the Spanish government described it as “an attack on Spain and its collaboration with the strengthening of democracy in Afghanistan.” The attacks came as the Afghan president, Ashraf Ghani, was returning from a regional conference in Islamabad, Pakistan, which called for the renewal of talks with the Taliban.
