30/01/2013 (Agence Europe) - Tajani deplores Rehn's comments on Italy. EU Industry Commissioner and member of Forza Italia Antonio Tajani has criticised the comments by Euro Commissioner Olli Rehn at the European Parliament on Tuesday 29 January, as electioneering reaches fever pitch in Italy (see EUROPE 10773). Tajani said the statement ran the risk of again making the Commission look like it has no independence. Rehn cited Italy under Berlusconi's leadership as an example of the problems arising when a country refuses to meet its budget commitments and how this raises the interest rates on its own debt. Rehn made identical comments in Madrid during the celebrations of the 40th anniversary of the European Trade Union Confederation. (MB/transl.fl)
