Brussels, 30/01/2013 (Agence Europe) - The last trialogue that took place at the European Parliament on 29 January on the proposal for a regulation on ENISA (the European Network and Security Agency) resulted in an agreement which will enable the strategy for the way this body works to be updated. Building on the Cypriot Presidency's considerable work and progress, and subject to the final approval of Coreper, the agreement reached with the Parliament will see the establishment of a stronger and more robust agency, which is better able to meet the technological challenges and demands facing the EU, the Irish Presidency stated. European Commissioner for the Digital Agenda Neelie Kroes welcomed the agreement, saying: “This is a timely development, particularly in light of the cyber security strategy and legislative proposal on network and information security which will be adopted by the Commission shortly”. The European Commission will present this strategy and the related directive on 7 February. ENISA was created in 2004 by a European regulation with a mandate of five years, then prolonged until 2012. The new regulation will enable ENISA's mandate to be renewed with an update of its missions, which has been made necessary by the permanent evolution of technology. (IL/transl.fl)
