01/10/2009 (Agence Europe) - Following up on EU requests, made over several years to the WTO within the Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures (SPS) Committee, then at a seminar on food safety in Jakarta in March 2009, Indonesia has gradually revised its import conditions for Irish beef, which had put an embargo on this product following the bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE) epizootic in 20201, through the adoption of new legislative measures in 2006, 2007 and 2009. Although the Indonesian legislation still does not fully comply with International Epizootics Organisation (OIE) standards, the BSE-related total ban is no longer in place, says the European Commission's DG Trade in a memo (E.H./transl.rt)
