Brussels, 14/09/2009 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has once again called on the Czech telecommunications regulatory authority, Èeský telekomunikaèní úøad (ÈTÚ), to drop tariffs for the termination of mobile calls - wholesale tariffs invoiced by mobile operators to each other for the termination of calls on their networks - on its territory. Despite the recent observations sent to the ÈTÚ by the Commission in late 2008 ordering it to reduce the tariffs as soon as possible, it is planning to keep them at the level provided for by its previous decision. In its letter, the Commission calls upon the ÈTÚ to re-examine the transition period proposed and move more quickly to an efficient level of mobile termination tariffs, in line with existing recommendations on the subject (see EUROPE 9897). The Commission also regrets the fact that less strict obligations are in place for the smallest operator, MobilKom. (I.L./transl.fl)
