Echo-sounders to avoid accidental fishing of dolphins judged to be costly and difficult to operate

Brussels, 22/07/2009 (Agence Europe) - Member states that have supplied information about the use of sound dissuasion methods, a.k.a. echo sounders (machines on fishing equipment that repel cetaceans so they don't get accidently caught in the nets) feel that such machines are extremely expensive and are not always effective, explains the European Commission in a report published on Thursday 16 July 2009.
