Strasbourg, 16/07/2009 (Agence Europe) - Twelve parliamentary committees (out of total of 20) held their constitutive meetings on Thursday 16 July in Strasbourg. Two sub-committees (Human Rights and Defence) as well as Transport, Agriculture, Culture, Development, Constitutional, Fisheries and Regional Affairs will meet on Monday 20 July in Brussels to proceed to a vote of their bureaux. The list of the first bureaux that have been elected by acclamation are as follows:
Foreign Affairs (FASE). This committee will be chaired by: Gabriele Albertini (EPP, Italy); Vice-Chairs: Fiorello Provera (EFD, Italy); Ioan Mircea Paºcu (S&D, Romania); Dominique Baudis (EPP, France); Jean-Luc Mélenchon (GUE/NGL, France).
International Trade (INTA). Chair: Vital Moreira (S&D, Portugal); Vice-chairs: Cristiana Muscardini (EPP, Italy); Robert Sturdy (ECR, UK ); Pawel Ksawery Zalewski (EPP, Poland); Yannick Jadot (Greens/EFA, France).
Budgets (BUDG). Chair: Alain Lamassoure (EPP, France); Vice-chairs: Jutta Haug (S&D, Germany); Alexander Alvaro (ALDE, Germany); Jean-Luc Dehaene (EPP, Belgium); Ivaylo Kalfin (S&D, Bulgaria).
Economic and Monetary Affairs (ECON). Chair: Sharon Bowles (ALDE, United Kingdom). During the constitutive meeting she declared, “I am and have always been in favour of the euro and UK membership”; Vice-chairs: José Manuel Garcia-Margallo y Marfil (EPP, Spain); Arlene McCarthy (S&D, United Kingdom); Theodor Dumitru Stolojan (EPP, Romania); Edward Scicluna (S&D, Malta). The first committee meeting will take place on Tuesday 2 September.
