Brussels, 16/07/2009 (Agence Europe) - A negotiating session for concluding a comprehensive agreement between the EU and Libya was held in Tripoli on 13 and 14 July. The talks, begun in November 2008 by the European Commission, mainly aim at establishing complete free trade with Libya which, however, does not yet come within the general association agreement approach as it is only marginally involved (as an observer) in the EuroMed process.. The session that has just taken place was on the non-trade sections of the future agreement (norms and standards in particular). Discussions on trade will resume at the end of September. As a whole, the opinion in Brussels is that talks are progressing “relatively well” and it is hoped they will be concluded towards the end of 2010. (F.B./transl.jl)
