Brussels, 13/07/2009 (Agence Europe) - On Wednesday 15 and Thursday 16 July, the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) will hold its plenary in Brussels, which will be chaired by Mario Sepi. Some of the draft opinions to be examined over the course of the two days include: consumer rights; urban areas and youth violence; protection for children from travelling sex offenders; road transport emissions; civil society in EU-Bosnia-Herzegovina relations; regional integration for development in ACP countries; the components and downstream markets of the automotive industry.
The session will begin at 2.30pm on Wednesday with speeches by Antonio Marzano, President of the International Association of Economic and Social Councils and Similar Institutions (AICESIS) and the AICESIS' outgoing president, Joseph Toth. At 5.30pm, Joe Borg, Commissioner for Fisheries and Maritime Affairs, will present the proposal to revise the EU's fisheries policy and his ideas for an integrated maritime policy to the EESC. On Thursday at 9.00am, Sven Otto Littorin, Swedish Minister for Employment, will present the work programme of the Swedish Presidency of the Council, followed by a debate with EESC members.
