Brussels, 13/07/2009 (Agence Europe) - On Monday 13 July, the European Commission authorised a measure adopted by Estonia to help businesses face up to the current economic crisis. In 2009 and 2010, the scheme will allow funding of up to €500,000 per business to help companies facing funding problems because of the current credit crunch. The Commission said the aid was in line with the Community body of law, especially in that it is limited in time and scope and is only for companies that encountered difficulties after 1 July 2008. Competition Commissioner Neelie Kroes also welcomed the “excellent cooperation with the Estonian authorities” that contributed to a rapid Commission decision. The aid will be granted in the form of direct subsidies, loans and public guarantees to be issued by 31 December 2010 at the latest. (C.D./transl.jl)
