07/07/2009 (Agence Europe) - Answering press questions about his intentions at the head of the Eurogroup, Jean-Claude Juncker confirmed his intention to give up the post of finance minister in the next Luxembourg government but that he plans to remain at the helm of the Eurogroup (expiry of his tenure is in 2010). When asked what national portfolio this would correspond to, he said: “This will depend on government negotiations in Luxembourg on whether or not I can hold part of the functions that come under the Treasury Ministry, which are identical to those that other colleagues hold within the Eurogroup, which would then allow me to remain president of the Eurogroup”. He went on to address a number of candidates, saying: “Italy is also represented by its treasury minister, isn't it?” (A.B./transl.jl)
