22/06/2009 (Agence Europe) - On 16 June, the US State Department published its annual report on human trafficking. Out of 175 countries studied, sixteen EU member states figure on the list 'Group 1) of the countries best ranked for fighting this scourge. On the other hand, ten EU countries, including Greece, Ireland and Bulgaria still have a lot to do in this area (Group 2). Albania, Bosnia, Kosovo and Serbia are also in this group. Group III: Latvia for the EU and Montenegro for the Balkans are the only countries to figure in this group in an area where this phenomenon remains a “serious problem”. No EU or Balkan country, however, is in Group 4, which includes human trafficking that is completely out of their governments control.
