Luxembourg, 15/06/2009 (Agence Europe) - Several high-level meetings were held on Monday 15 June on the sidelines of the "External Relations" Council in Luxembourg to seek a solution to the border dispute between Croatia and Slovenia, which has been holding up Croatia's accession negotiations for several months. However, no tangible progress has been made. At the start of the day, the ministers of the current "trio" of Presidencies of the EU (France, the Czech Republic and Sweden) met Commissioner Olli Rehn to discuss technical amendments to be made by Mr Rehn to his proposal of 26 April (creation of an ad hoc arbitration committee to map the maritime and land borders between the two countries) to take at least a partial account of the amendments called for by Slovenia (it is worth noting that Croatia has already accepted the Commission's offer). Mr Rehn then met the Slovenian and Croatian Foreign Affairs Ministers, respectively Samuel Zbogar and Gordan Jandrokovic, with whom he discussed new ideas, which have not yet been made public. The Slovenian and Croatian Ministers took their leave of each other with no tangible results. The two parties are to hold internal consultations and will meet again, most likely at Prime Minister level, on the sidelines of the European Council to be held in Brussels this Thursday and Friday.
