Brussels, 15/06/2009 (Agence Europe) - The dinner at which the European troika and Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa were due to meet in Luxembourg on Sunday evening was cancelled. Having met EU High Representative for the CFSP Javier Solana in Cairo on Sunday morning, Moussa felt that no purpose would be served in his travelling to Luxembourg that evening. At their meeting, Solana restated the EU position as he ended his visit to the region. On Monday evening, however, Moussa, accompanied by a high ranking official of the Palestinian Authority, was due to meet Spanish Foreign Minister Miguel Angel Moratinos in Luxembourg. During his tour, which took in Beirut, High Representative for the CFSP Javier Solana held a meeting, for the first time, with a Hezbollah MP, Hussein Hajj Hassan. This meeting followed a similar initiative by Great Britain. Hajj Hassan said that he saw in the meeting a gesture of goodwill on the part of the EU. The United States and Israel consider Hezbollah to be a terrorist organisation. Solana said that terrorist lists were not necessarily the same in all countries. “We believe that Hezbollah is part of the political life of this country. They have elected representatives in parliament and that is why I held discussions with them,” he said. (F.B./transl.rt)
