25/05/2009 (Agence Europe) - On Wednesday 20 May, the Swiss Federal Council decided to discard the Schengen safeguard clause which would have allowed the Confederation to restrict the number of Community workers on Swiss soil. Activation of such a clause would not only have had an adverse effect on the Swiss economy but would also have sent a negative signal to the EU countries, the Federal Council states.
