Parliament to adopt compromise on telecoms package despite some ambiguity over right of access to internet and respect of users' fundamental rights

Brussels, 05/05/2009 (Agence Europe) - Debates prior to the second reading vote on the telecoms package, scheduled for Wednesday 6 May, have shown the Parliament's resolve to protect personal data and users' fundamental rights on the internet. “The internet is a public space that must ensure freedom and security of access”, stressed one of the rapporteurs, Catherine Trautmann (PES, France).
