Brussels, 28/04/2009 (Agence Europe) - Another shell in the barrage against fake rosé: AREV - the Assembly of European Wine Regions “robustly denounced” the planned elimination by the European Commission of the ban on blending white and red table wines to “produce” rosé. It believes this would lead to a trend that exclusively promoted industrial wine production. AREV's international bureau is made up of senior political and business representatives from Germany, Austria, Spain, France, Georgia, Hungary, Italy, Luxembourg, Romania and the Czech Republic and met up on 24 April in Tokaj, Hungary. It “unanimously” refused any changes to the labelling that would effectively put an end to the mention of “traditional rosé” and “blended rosé”. AREV is calling on the Commission to immediately change its decision at the management committee meeting on 19 June (which is due to vote on the regulation on oenological practices) and maintain the current ban on blending and the only exception being “vino tinto de mezcla” on Spanish territory.
