15/04/2009 (Agence Europe) - In its resolution on Economic Partnership Agreements (EPAs) and their impact on ACP states, adopted in Prague on 9 April (see EUROPE 9880), the Joint Parliamentary Assembly (JPA) “urges the Council and Commission to accept any goods-only WTO compatible proposals from ACP countries”. However, the paragraph stating that the Commission must not impose negotiations on services or on the Singapore issues and that public services should remain outside the framework for liberalisation was removed. The JPA, thus, agreed with rapporteur Jürgen Schroeder (EPP-ED, Germany), who felt that this paragraph was too negative. Elsewhere, the JPA decided that EPAs should contain a clause providing for revision five years (and not three years) after their signature. (A.N./transl.rt)
