Brussels, 09/04/2009 (Agence Europe) - On 8 April, during a meeting in Toulouse, the Europe-Ecology association spearheaded in France by outgoing MEP Daniel Cohn-Bendit (head of the list in Ile-de-France, together with former magistrate, Eva Joly) unveiled its programme for the June elections. The 68 page “Ecologist contract for Europe” outlines nine pillars (employment, energy, agriculture, social rights, health, biodiversity, human rights and the fight against discrimination, knowledge and international solidarity) and 27 proposals echoing the European Greens “manifesto” (EUROPE 9872). As well as the “ecological conversion of the economy”, the campaign promises are also resolutely social in nature and set out the organisation of a “Brussels of employment” that can create “10 million jobs in five years”, the creation of a “European social shield” including the “guarantee of a means of existence” and a “maximum acceptable income”, as well as a “European pact against exclusion”. In Toulouse, José Bové, head of the list for the South West, also appealed for “a GMO-free Europe in the fields and on our plates”. Europe Ecology is getting 9-10% in the polls and is on a par with the New Anti-Capitalist Party (NPA) of Olivier Besancenot, just behind the Modem.
