09/04/2009 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday 7 April, the Council of Ministers of the EU adopted in written procedure, a regulation allowing for more rapid and targeted use of EU structural funds to tackle the economic crisis. Member states will have access to additional advances of €6.3bn: the European Social Fund (ESF) will be able to pay out advances of €1.8bn (strengthen labour market policies, refocus support on the most in need, develop qualifications); European Regional and Development Funds (ERDF) will be able to release up to €4.5bn in 2009 under payment advances planned for 2010 and 2011 (productive investments, infrastructure spending and regional and local development).
