19/03/2009 (Agence Europe) - On Monday 16 March, MEPs on the European Parliament's civil liberties committee adopted by 41 votes in favour, 2 against, with 2 abstentions, the own-initiative report of Adina Ioana Valean (ALDE, Romania), which monitors application of the 200/38/EC directive on the right of family members to move and reside freely within the territory of the member states. MEPs point out that no member state has completely transposed the full directive and call on the European Commission to begin infringement procedures. MEPs also unanimously adopted the own-initiative report prepared by Urszula Gacek (EPP-ED, Poland), which highlighted problems and prospects linked to Union citizenship. The two reports will be voted on in the plenary on 1 and 2 April in Brussels. (B.C./transl.rh)
