Brussels, 19/03/2009 (Agence Europe) - The ATD Fourth World's Wresinski Circle is organising a conference-debate, with the participation of writer Jean-Claude Guillebaud on Thursday 2 April at 6.45pm. This event will take place at the Université catholique de Louvain (UCL) conference pavilion (Clos Chapelle aux Champs 19, 1200 Woluwe St Lambert) on the theme of “The Poorest, Humanity's Guarantors in a Changing World”.
After working for many years as a journalist, Jean-Claude Guillebaud took some time out to reflect on the importance of events, the direction society is moving in, the relationship between cause and effect, and the future of our world. His reflection will be illustrated and completed by a testimony provided by Régis De Muylder, a volunteer at ATD Fourth World, who will be discussing the choice he made in his life to work with the poorest sections of society.
This conference-debate will be introduced by a reading of selected texts from the speeches of Father Wresinski, including: “We will never reintegrate the excluded as long as we do not accept their word as a protest for us and our world: not only with regard to our policies and structures but also for the way we are and our civilisation. The excluded are the only ones who can tell us about dignity because they have known nothing but shame. They alone can tell us about fraternity because they have known nothing but exclusion. But to accept this, is already to commit ourselves to a new stage in our civilisation”.
The Joseph Wresinski Circle brings together citizens from all walks of life who want to examine the relevance of Joseph Wresinski's project for society in our world today. It is aimed at all those who want to deepen their reflections and share their views about the poorest people in our society and discuss them with others.
