Brussels, 02/03/2009 (Agence Europe) - In an interview to the Xinhua agency, given during last week's trade mission visit to four European countries (Germany, Spain, United Kingdom and Switzerland), which aims to put the 38 agreements signed during the European visit at the end of January into practice, the Chinese prime minister Wen Jiabao and the minister for trade, Chen Denming, expressed China's commitment to free trade as “good way” of helping get the world out of the financial crisis. Mr Chen insisted that, “no country can escape the global financial crisis and economic recession. Only the opening up of the markets can help us resolve this problem. The mission to Europe, “shows China's determination to overcome current economic difficulties with other countries”, explained Mr Chen. He stressed that the EU and US will have spent $1 500bn on their economic recovery plans but warned against including provisions on national preference, in a reference to the Buy American clause. Mr Chen said that in response to the said US clause, China would, “adopt an approach of openness by sending its companies out to buy European goods”. He provided assurances that his mission was “only the beginning” and precedes other Chinese delegations that will come to Europe to promote trade and bilateral investment. (E.H./trans/rh)
