27/02/2009 (Agence Europe) - After Hungarian Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsany's wondering about the usefulness of retaining the requirement that member states be part of the European exchange rate mechanism (ERM II) for two years before being able to adopt the euro (see EUROPE 9847), his Polish counterpart expressed his doubts about this condition for joining the euro area. “We should consider whether the rules for accession to this system (ERM II) should not be reviewed,” said Donald Tusk in an interview with the daily Financial Times Deutschland on 27 February. Poland is not yet a member of the Mechanism and wants to adopt the euro in early 2012. (A.B./transl.rt)
