With polls looking good in Ireland calls mount for new referendum in first half of year - government wants “legal guarantees” before setting date

Brussels, 16/02/2009 (Agence Europe) - A new poll has confirmed that the Lisbon Treaty would have a good chance of obtaining the Irish people's approval if a new referendum took place. According to a TNS mrbi poll, published in the Irish Times on 16 February, 51% (8% more than last year) of Irish citizens say they are ready to vote in favour of the new treaty.
