Brussels, 16/02/2009 (Agence Europe) - On 16 February exactly four years ago, the Kyoto Protocol on combatting climate change came into force. Under this protocol, those of the world's industrialised countries which ratified it will have to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions by 5.2%, compared with 1990 levels, between 2008 and 2012. EU countries have undertaken collectively on a binding 8% reduction in their emissions by that date.
