Brussels, 13/02/2009 (Agence Europe) - On Thursday 12 February, European farmers, represented by Copa-Cogeca, and the Federation of Associations for Hunting and Conservation (FACE) signed a memorandum of understanding. The two organisations will increase cooperation in a number of areas, in particular, sustainable land management and environmental conservation.
Gilbert de Turckheim, President of FACE, said, “This is indeed a very significant event” for both organisations. He added that, for generations, hunters and farmers had been committed to preserving rural areas. Jean-Michel Lemétayer, President of Copa, said that the agreement would “allow us to join hands and work towards our common goal of maintaining sustainability in our countryside”.
FACE is a non-governmental organisation representing 36 member organisations and over seven million European hunters. Copa-Cogeca is the voice of European farmers and European agri-cooperatives, representing 15 million people working in agriculture in the EU and other European countries, as well as over 40,000 cooperatives.
