Brussels, 23/01/2009 (Agence Europe) - Arab ambassadors in Brussels have undertaken a series of contacts with European circles (Council, Commission and Parliament) as well as with Belgian and Luxembourg circles to put across their stance on the situation resulting from the invasion of the Gaza Strip. They were received on Wednesday by Marc Otte, EU Special Representative for the Middle East. Various other meetings are scheduled, including with presidents of political groups at the European Parliament.
The Arab group hopes to clarify the situation not only on the Israeli attitude but also as part of the argument that highlights Arab divisions in the current conflict, the ambassador of the Arable League with the EU explained. Abdelwahab Derbal thus considers that Israel has “given final proof that it does not want peace”. Every attempt (from Madrid to Oslo) has come up against the Israeli resolve to go against peace, he said. He also calls on the EU tor review its vision as “Israel kills and Europe simply goes on giving aid”. “The Palestinian question is not a matter of charity or assistance and in essence it is a matter of right
not of force”. (F.B./transl.jl)
