17/12/2008 (Agence Europe) - The European Parliament's United European Left/Nordic Greens Left (GUE/NGL) group met the president of the RASD (République arabe sahraouie démocratique) and Secretary General of the Polisario Font, Mohamed Abdelaziz, on Tuesday 16 December on the sidelines of the plenary session in Strasbourg. In a press release diffused after this meeting, the GUE/NGL Group expresses its solidarity for the Sahraoui people's fight for independence and takes a stance in favour of a political and negotiated solution to the Sahraoui question as well as the organisation of a referendum on self-determination under the authority of the United Nations. The group calls on the European Union to act in a consequential manner so that Morocco cooperates with international bodies. The GUE/NGL group denounces the Moroccan authorities' blocking of the arrival of a European Parliament delegation - formed in 2005 - to Morocco and the Western Sahara, and calls for this delegation to be finally granted access.
