Brussels, 16/12/2008 (Agence Europe) - French Finance Ministers Christine Lagarde has convened an informal meeting of her fellow European finance ministers in Paris on Thursday 16 December. Discussions will focus mainly on quick definition of a European position on financial stability issues initiated at international level by the G20 Summit in November (see EUROPE 9784). “It's a bit too long to go for a month with no meetings during times of crisis,” The French Presidency is saying. In a letter to ministers, a copy of which has been obtained by EUROPE, Lagarde raises the following topics for possible discussion: - setting up an early warning system to detect weaknesses in the international financial system; - the attitude to adopt towards “uncooperative courts”; - and the resources needed by the International Monetary (IMF) fund to fulfil its role in times of crisis. The Heads of the IMF, Dominique Strauss-Kahn, and the Stability Forum, Mario Draghi, have also been invited to the meeting. (M.B./transl.rt)
