01/12/2008 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has decided to take Cyprus before the Court of Justice of the European Communities over the award of a public contract for the Vasilikos power station. The Commission notes that a tender for this project was rejected for reasons not clearly mentioned in the call, and that another was selected when it did not meet the conditions required. The Commission has also decided to send a reasoned opinion to Greece for failure to comply with a December 2007 Court of Justice judgement, which declares as incompatible the Greek legislation whereby some public procurement contracts for medical equipment are awarded without prior calls for tender.
