24/11/2008 (Agence Europe) -In a speech made during his visit to the port of Rotterdam on Monday 24 November, Antonio Tajani announced a raft of measures in favour of the maritime sector. Over the coming weeks, the Transport Commissioner plans to put to the College of Commissioners a proposal aiming to simplify the administrative treatment of vessels in port and to present a communication on prospects for maritime transport between now and 2018. The document will focus on seven priority areas: the competitiveness of the European fleet, the issue of crews and human resources, maritime transport security, safety and the environment, reinforcing Europe's weight in the international bodies, ports and maritime transport and technology. The Commission also announced that a Green Paper on port policy would be adopted early next year. (A.By./trans.fl)
