Brussels, 05/11/2008 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday 4 November, the Ecofin Council adopted conclusions on statistics in the European Union. With regard to the Economic and Financial Committee Report 2008 (see EUROPE 9539), the Council welcomes the progress made on Principal European Economic Indicators (PEEI) and calls on Eurostat and the European Central Bank to provide an updated status report on the fulfilment of EMU statistical requirements in 2009. European finance ministers say that further effort is needed to reduce the statistical burden, through, for example, Eurostat's establishing a harmonised methodology. Lastly, ministers look forward to the swift establishment of the European Statistical Governance Advisory Board. (M.B./transl.rt)
