Brussels, 28/10/2008 (Agence Europe) - Véronique De Keyser MEP (Socialist, Belgium) will go to Syria on Friday 31 October for a three day visit. She described the raid in Syria carried out from bases in Iraq as “an unacceptable violation of Syria's territorial integrity” and said that she was “shocked that US forces dare to declare it as a success…How can a raid be spoken of as a success when half the victims are children? It is incredibly cynical”.
The official press agency, SANA stated that at the meeting with Per Stig Moeller, the Danish foreign affairs minister on 26 October, Syria's president al-Assad called on Europe to “assume its role in helping find suitable solutions to problems in the Middle East, which will positively reflect on everyone, including Europe and the rest of the world”. According to SANA, “the head of Danish diplomacy expressed hope of promoting cooperation between Syria and Europe and signing the partnership agreement with the European Union this year”.
