22/09/2008 (Agence Europe) - On Sunday 21 September, on the sidelines of the informal meeting of European agriculture ministers in Annecy, Agriculture Commissioner Mariann Fischer Boel said that negotiations on liberalising trade in agriculture between the EU and Morocco were at a very sensitive point. There was difficulty particularly with regard to tomatoes (timetable for the export of Moroccan tomatoes to the European market and quantities that can be exported) and it was “important that we maintain fixed entry prices for (Moroccan) fruit and vegetables into the EU,” she said. Negotiations are always of great concern particularly to Spanish fruit and vegetable producers (Andalusia, Murcia and the Canary Islands). Similar agreements have been reached with Egypt (in July) and Israel. (L.C./transl.rt)
