05/08/2008 (Agence Europe) - Willi Piecyk MEP (Socialist, Germany) died of cancer on Thursday 31 July. Mr Piecyk was 59. He had been a member of the European Parliament's transport committee and rapporteur for the European Union integrated maritime policy (EUROPE 9639). He had been an MEP since 1992, president of the German Socialist Party (SPD) in the Schleswig-Holstein region (1991-99) and president of the SPD's Young Socialists (1980-82). (A.By/trans/rh)
