05/08/2008 (Agence Europe) - Plutarchos Sakellaris has been appointed vice-president of the European Investment Bank (EIB) with effect from 1 August 2008. Prior to joining the Bank, Sakellaris held the position of Chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers at the Hellenic Ministry of Economy and Finance and Professor in the Department of Economics at the Athens University of Economics and Business. His responsibilities on the EIB's Management Committee include supervising financing operations in Denmark, Ireland, Greece, Cyprus, the African, Caribbean and Pacific countries and South Africa. Plutarchos Sakellaris was born in Thessaloniki, Greece in 1964. He studied in the United States and holds an undergraduate degree from Brandeis University and a doctorate from Yale University. (A.B.)
