Review of European rules on tobacco excise aims to better integrate public health issues

Brussels, 15/07/2008 (Agence Europe) - Tobacco, which causes around 650,000 deaths per year, is still the prime cause of avoidable death in Europe. To better combat this public health problem, the European Commission will, on Wednesday 16 July, be suggesting that excise on tobacco products be raised in order to have a deterrent effect on tobacco consumption.
