Brussels, 14/07/2008 (Agence Europe) - On Friday 11 July, the European Commission announced implementation of Community legislation on attacks against information systems. Six of the 27 member states had still not implemented the 2005 framework decision, although the transposition deadline expired in March 2007. Commission vice president, Jacques Barrot, said that he was concerned by the fact that Spain, Greece, Malta, Ireland, the United Kingdom and Slovakia had not provided any information on application measures. Nonetheless, he was pleased with the good level of framework decision application by the “great majority” of states. Mr Barroso stated that “recent successive criminal attacks against information systems, in particular the massive attacks directed against Estonian information infrastructures in 2007, underline the need for a closer European coordination of responses to such attacks. I call on the member states that have not given full effect to the Framework Decision to correct this situation as soon as possible". (B.C./transl.rh)
