Brussels, 26/06/2008 (Agence Europe) - On Thursday 26 June, the European Commission decided to send a letter of formal notice to 24 member states regarding their failure to implement the First Railway Package legislation properly. Countries concerned are: Austria, Germany, Belgium, Bulgaria, Denmark, Spain, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Poland, Portugal, Czech Republic, Romania, United Kingdom, Slovakia, Slovenia and Sweden.
Furthermore, the Commission has decided to send reasoned opinions to Italy for failure to adequately implement EU legislation on port State control of shipping and to Slovakia for failure to respect EU legislation on ship-source pollution and on the introduction of penalties for persons responsible for polluting discharges.
