16/06/2008 (Agence Europe) -The European and American associations of chambers of commerce and industry associations (Eurochambres and US Chambers of Commerce respectively) are to work together on a pilot project aiming to reinforce the transatlantic fight against counterfeiting and piracy. This project, which will be co-funded by the European Commission to a level of €500,000, will serve to: - keep consumers and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) better informed of the risks involved in buying counterfeit or pirate products; - promote transatlantic exchange on the best way of enforcing intellectual property laws; - getting SMEs more involved in the fight against this global phenomenon. In Washington in February 2009, the transatlantic conference will see the presentation of the results of an academic study, which will propose ideas for the development of transatlantic policies in this field.
