06/06/2008 (Agence Europe) - In a declaration issued on Friday 6 June, Giorgos Koumoutsakos, spokesman for the Greek Foreign Ministry, regrets the decision by the Macedonian president not to take part in the sixth regional summit of South Eastern European heads of State, to be held on 13 June in Athens. “Despite our efforts, President Crvenkovski has chosen not to participate. As the host country, Greece wanted all those invited to participate, without exception. This instance is one of many that clearly points to the need to find a mutually acceptable solution to the name issue. Greece is sincere in its pursuit of such a solution. A solution without losers. A solution that will strengthen bilateral relations and regional security, and help our neighbouring country to realise its European and Euro-Atlantic aspirations”, the spokesman says. The summit is part of a series of meetings devoted to regional cooperation on water (sea and rivers). It is attended by Hungary, Moldova, Greece, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, FYROM, Montenegro, Serbia, Turkey, Albania, Bulgaria and Romania. (O.J./transl. jl)
