Michel Barnier wants debate on quotas and effect of fuel costs on fishing

Maribor, 27/05/2008 (Agence Europe) - On the sidelines of the informal Agriculture Council taking place in the Slovenian town of Maribor, French Fisheries Minister Michel Barnier said on Monday 26 May that he would like to use the six months of the French Presidency of the EU (from July to December 2008) to open a debate on two issues: the effects of the surge in fuel prices on fishing activities and “more effective” management of fishing quotas.
