Brussels, 23/05/2008 (Agence Europe) - On Thursday 22 May 2008, the Council adopted a resolution on the involvement of disadvantaged young people. The situation of young people, particularly those from a disadvantaged background in terms of education, socio-economics, geography or disability, has become a major concern in many Member States, commented the Slovenian Presidency, which aims to deal with the issue during its six-month term of office. The resolution invites Member States to consider including disadvantaged young people as a high priority in the implementation of the revised Lisbon Objectives and pursuit of the aims of the European Youth Pact. It suggests drawing up suitable strategies and plans to establish conditions to allow disadvantaged young people to get involved and integrated in society. Over dinner, Slovenian minister Milan Zver presented youth organisations with the outcome of work in this connection carried out by previous presidencies and planned future events. He said the youth representatives seemed to react positively. (I.L.)
