San Cugat des Vallès wants to be seat of EIT

Brussels, 14/05/2008 (Agence Europe) - Spain is promoting the Catalan town of Sant Cugat des Vallès as the seat of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT), following the candidacies presented by Vienna and Bratislava (EUROPE 9657). Vallès is part of the knowledge triangle and held in high esteem by the future institute, thanks to the presence of it renowned universities and big technological companies with worldwide reputations. The town also has 15 technological sites, 1700 companies and two business schools. Spain is hoping, however, that its added value, the development of two innovative projects to help the EIT, will go in its favour: the “EIT Business and Performance Unit”, which will contribute towards good management of the institute through the work of ten or so collaborators and an “EIT Junior” school for training 16-18 year olds in entrepreneurship. Vallès promoters state that, “Spain has supported the concept of the EIT since the beginning and has actively participated in the institutional process. The logical sequel to this involvement is Spain's candidacy, which provides the optimum conditions for ensuring the success of this initiative”. (I.L.)
