Brussels, 14/05/2008 (Agence Europe) - The European United Left/Nordic Green Left group (GUE/NGL) announced on Wednesday 7 May that it was launching a publication, “Towards a Europe of mixed identities: our proposals to counter EU hypocrisies on migration”. GUE/NGL president, Francis Wurtz, affirmed that the EU says that it needs migrant workers yet “is refusing them entry to the EU”. Wurtz also indicated that his group was also concerned by the risk of the situation worsening under the French Presidency. Several sections in the publication focus on the returns directive, which will probably be adopted at the European Parliament next June, explained a press release. Giusto Catania was keen to point out that they are “supporting those NGOs who have designated it the 'outrageous' directive”. Catania concluded that “Our group has been the only group in Parliament to vote against the directive in the justice and home affairs committee and we will continue to fight to prevent its adoption”.
