08/05/2008 (Agence Europe) - On Wednesday 7 May, Sweden took over the Chair of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, the 47-member pan-European organisation, from Slovakia. Over the next six months, the Swedish Chairmanship's main priority will be to promote the realisation of the Council of Europe's core objective - “to make rights real”, says a press release. The Swedish Chairmanship will focus on the implementation of the action plan drawn up at the 3rd Summit in Warsaw in 2005, the streamlining of the Council of Europe's activities, and reform measures for a more efficient and transparent Council of Europe.
