Satisfaction and criticism from EU troika - future French presidency of EU to be “objective” on question of accession negotiations

Brussels, 07/05/2008 (Agence Europe) - The ministerial troika of the EU, headed by Dimitrij Rupel and Olli Rehn, has appealed to Turkey to pursue democratic reforms as part of their progress towards EU accession negotiations. At the end of a troika meeting with the Turkish foreign affairs minister, Ali Babacan, on 6 May in Ankara, Mr Rehn declared, “the best medicine is to do all in their power to push democratic reforms forward”.
