ECRI publishes five new reports

Brussels, 05/05/2008 (Agence Europe) - The ECRI (European Commission against Racism and Intolerance) has published five new reports concerning:

Liechtenstein: The government has adopted a five-year Nation Action Plan to combat and prevent racism. Many different initiatives have been taken to train officials and to heighten public awareness. Muslims, however, continue to encounter obstacles to the practice of their religion and children of immigrant origin are still faced with difficulties when it comes to access to education.

Malta: The legal and institutional framework for combating racism and racial discrimination has been strengthened. However, migrants in an illegal situation, asylum seekers, persons with humanitarian status and refugees are still exposed to racial discrimination when it comes to access to the various services, and still face abuse on the labour market.

Moldova: There is a problem caused by inappropriate implementation of laws governing many areas that are important for combating racism and racial discrimination.

San Marino: Civil and administrative legislation banning discrimination in all areas has still to be adopted.

Serbia: Although a draft law has been developed on discrimination, Serbia has still not adopted comprehensive provisions against racial discrimination in civil and administrative law. Too often, the criminal code is still not applied to persons who commit racist acts.
