Brussels, 05/05/2008 (Agence Europe) - Louis Michel, European Development and Humanitarian Aid Commissioner, vigorously condemns the assassination of Pascal Marlinge, who headed the NGO Save the Children UK mission, on 1 May along the Farchana/Adre road in eastern Chad.
In a press release published on 2 May, the Commissioner states: “Pascal Marlinge's murder is a foul, criminal act. Pascal Marline devoted his life to helping and saving the most vulnerable (…). My thoughts go to his family, his colleagues and to the whole humanitarian community in Chad (…). It is unacceptable for humanitarian workers to be attacked in this despicable manner”. Mr Michel calls on the Chadian authorities to shed light on this serious incident and to rapidly take every measure necessary so that humanitarian workers may continue to do their work. (A.N.)
